Witnesses say Brooks, a Detroit resident, placed a large order that included five Number 1s, five Number 2s, 60 chicken nuggets, and 15 large fries, specifically requesting that all items be cooked “hot and fresh.”.
When the food was brought to her table, Brooks returned to the counter just minutes later, visibly agitated, claiming the fries were cold.
The cashier, Consuela Nieves, assured Brooks the fries were freshly prepared, but Brooks allegedly leaped behind the counter, grabbed Nieves by the hair, and dragged her to the fry station.
As coworkers and customers watched in horror, Brooks reportedly submerged Nieves’ face into the vat of hot fry grease while shouting, “This is hot! I need my fries this hot!” Several McDonald’s employees tried to intervene, but Brooks appeared to exhibit unusual strength, knocking them away with ease.
By the time employees managed to restrain her, Nieves had tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Detroit police arrested Brooks at the scene, and she is currently being held without bond while awaiting trial.
The violent nature of the attack and its tragic outcome have left the community in shock.
McDonald’s released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of their employee, describing Nieves as a hardworking and kind young woman who was beloved by her coworkers.
As the investigation continues, Brooks faces charges of first-degree murder.
