Shawn Mendes released his latest album Shawn only a little more than two months ago, but the set has already largely faded away from memory, which is a troublesome possibility in pop music.
The set’s lead single is turning out to be sturdier than originally thought, as it becomes a special hit for the superstar again this week, months after it was originally shared with the world.
“Why Why Why” can be found on two charts in the United Kingdom this week. Coincidentally, it appears in the same position, at No. 8, on both of them.
Mendes’ tune may land in the exact same rung on a pair of rosters, but its journey to eighth place has not been similar on the tallies. “Why Why Why” returns to one roster, while debuting on the other.
Mendes launches his tune at No. 8 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. It returns to the Official Physical Singles list in that space as well, though this frame is its second on that ranking. The song debuted at No. 50 back in December 2024, but it fell away almost instantly.
“Why Why Why” is only Mendes’ second top 10 hit on the list of the top-selling vinyl songs in the U.K. In fact, he’s only sent a pair of tracks to any position on the roster throughout his career, as he apparently hasn’t spent much time doling out his most familiar cuts on wax
Before “Why Why Why,” Mendes nearly hit No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Singles chart. His first track to find space on the sales ranking, “When You’re Gone,” peaked in the runner-up space in late 2022.
He’s fared much better on the list of the bestselling songs on any physical format, which does include vinyl, though cassettes and CDs are also included in the methodology.
All four of his tunes that have reached the roster—including both “When You’re Gone” and “Why Why Why,” as well as “Life of the Party” and “Monster” with Justin Bieber—have spent time inside the loftiest tier.
Why Why Why” was originally released in August 2024, and it peaked at No. 59 on the main singles list in the U.K., missing out on reaching the top 40 region.
His next two focus cuts, “Isn’t That Enough” and “Nobody Knows,” both missed that roster, while final single “Heart of Gold” stalled at No. 81
