Valentine’s Day turned into a nightmare for one Detroit family after a father took matters into his own hands, setting his house on fire and killing his 14-year-old daughter’s and her 18-year-old boyfriend.

Stanford Marshall, 52, returned home early from work to find his daughter, Sharita Marshall, in bed with Mike Jurkowitz, whom she had secretly invited over.
Overcome with rage, Marshall gently woke his daughter, covered her mouth, and dragged her from the room.
He tied her to a chair, taping her mouth shut before heading to the garage to grab a can of gasoline.
Without hesitation, he doused the room in fuel as Mike slept, locked the doors, and struck a match.
Within seconds, the house was in flames, trapping the young man inside.
Screams echoed through the neighborhood as Marshall sat in his truck with his daughter, watching the fire consume his home with Mike still inside.
By the time firefighters arrived, there was nothing they could do-Mike was burned beyond recognition.
Police arrived on the scene as Marshall remained by the burning house, showing no attempt to flee. When questioned, he immediately confessed, telling authorities, “Sharita is my baby.
She’s all I have left, and I was just trying to protect her.” His calm demeanor and the tragic backstory of losing Sharita’s mother to a brutal murder years earlier played a key role in what happened next.
Despite the brutal nature of the crime, Marshall was sentenced to just three years of probation.
The judge, who revealed he also had a daughter the same age, expressed sympathy, stating, “If the victim had been under 18, I’d send you to jail for life. Now go fix the relationship with your daughter.”
While the legal system has closed the case, the court of public opinion remains divided. Marshall, now a free man, told Dax News that his daughter is furious with him but that they have started counseling to repair their bond.
